I
have spent over a decade of my life as a professional architectural
sculptor, so I know what an investment of time, money, and
talent these masks represent. As a sculptor and a moldmaker,
I am blown away by the talent that I have found lurking out
there in the smallest corners of the internet. There is some
amazing artwork out there (and these are art, make no mistake),
that are unfindable, unrecognized, and unsung.
When
I found this url about to drop, I jumped on it immediately,
and got to work on the initial 500 pages of this site (now
over 1,000). More are being added on a regular basis. I believe
that these artworks in latex are valued at this present day
as hand-colored Disney cells were in the early 70s. That is,
not what they are worth. Imagine if you could go back in time,
and purchase as many such cells as you could afford.... someday
(soon), I anticipate these to be recognized, sought after,
and more widely collected.
The
idea of the sites is to put the artists in touch with their
audience, while leaving them the freedom to pursue their muse.
For an artist, the sad reality is that the business part of
trying to make a living will intrude upon, and sometimes destroy,
the creative urge.
